What Is Psychodynamic Counselling?
Psychodynamic counselling is based on the understanding that our past experiences — especially early relationships — shape the way we relate to ourselves and others in the present. Often, we may not be fully aware of how these patterns influence our emotions and behaviours today.
In psychodynamic therapy, we work together to bring these unconscious patterns into awareness. By exploring feelings, memories, and relational dynamics, you can begin to understand yourself more deeply and gain clarity over longstanding difficulties.
This approach can be especially helpful if:
- You feel stuck in repeating patterns in relationships
- You struggle with self-esteem or inner criticism
- You experience emotions you can’t easily explain
- You’ve had difficult or traumatic early experiences
- You’re seeking long-term emotional growth and insight

What To Expect In A Counselling Session
Each session lasts 50 minutes and takes place weekly in the Cheltenham practice. During your first session, we’ll talk about what brings you to counselling and what you hope to gain. There’s no pressure to share everything right away — we’ll go at your pace.
You are welcome to come for a short-term focus or to engage in longer-term work, depending on what feels right for you.
